Premise
Daredevil pilot Amelia Wren and weather researcher James Glaisher are in an epic struggle for survival while trying to discover in a gas balloon.

Production
Amazon Studios purchased the film rights to Tom Harper's spec script in December 2016. Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne were reported to be starring in the film in mid-2018. Filming started at West London Film Studios in early August.
The Royal Naval College, Greenwich, Regent's Park, London, Claydon House, Buckinghamshire, Oxford's Bodleian Library, and Wrotham Park, Which featured filming locations in England.
It was partly shot with IMAX cameras because the film is supposed to premiere in IMAX theatres.
Release
At the Telluride Film Festival on August 30, 2019, the film had its world premiere. It also premiered on September 8, 2019 at the Toronto International Film Festival. Amazon Studios will release the Aeronauts theatrically on December 6, 2019. The movie is expected to premiere on Amazon Prime Video worldwide on December 20, 2019, following its brief run in cinemas.
The film was originally scheduled to be released exclusively in IMAX format on October 25, 2019, with a release worldwide on November 1, 2019. The IMAX Corporation subsequently indicated that they required a ninety-day commitment for any film and only a brief exclusive was offered by the producers; this was not acceptable to the company.
