On that month, the four main stars and Fleischer all signed, while other cast members, including Dawson and Wilson, joined in early 2019. From January to March 2019, shooting took place. Sony Pictures Releasing is scheduled to release the film in the U.S. on October 18, 2019 under its Columbia Pictures label.

Plot
Ten years after the events of the first film, in an America overrun by zombies, survivors Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita, and Little Rock have become experts in identifying and disposing of various zombies. Visiting the abandoned White House, Columbus wants to suggest the use of the Hope Diamond to Wichita, while Tallahassee refuses the aspirations of Little Rock to meet a boy and start their own family. Tallahassee gets a letter from Wichita and Little Rock the next day, who left because of the Little Rock feeling that Tallahassee still sees her as a child, and the fear that Wichita is too attached to Columbus.
A month later, while visiting a mall, Madison, who has lived in Pinkberry for years alone, surprised Columbus. Tallahassee is irritated by the vapid Madison, but Columbus welcomes her back to the White House where she seduces him easily. Returning and finding Columbus slept with Madison, Wichita reveals that Little Rock left for Graceland with a hippie named Berkeley and warns the group of more powerful and long-lasting "superzombies." Fearing for the safety of Little Rock, the party travels to Graceland in a minivan.
On the street, the group is attempting to control a luxury RV, but Madison is triggering the alarm and zombies are attacking them. Annihilating the group, they discover a superzombie that takes multiple shots to kill, prompting Columbus to call it the "T-800." Madison displays "zombiefiecation" symptoms, causing Columbus to fire her into the trees. Arriving in Graceland, the group finds "the Beast," Little Rock's transformed presidential limousine stolen by Tallahassee, in an Elvis-themed motel owned by Reno, discovering that Little Rock took another car to Babylon, a hippie commune. Reno and Tallahassee have sex because of their passion of Elvis.
The team wakes up to find the Beast crushed by a monster truck driven by Albuquerque and Flagstaff that resembles Tallahassee and Columbus strongly. Superzombies arrive, and Albuquerque explains that because of hordes of superzombies moving east, they have turned back from their journey west. Albuquerque and Flagstaff seem to prevail in the face of the superzombies alone, but both are attacked. Turning to superzombies, with the aid of Reno, they are killed by the band.
Bidding farewell to Reno, Tallahassee can not drive the monster truck of Albuquerque; Columbus takes over the minivan's driving duties. The group finds Madison, driving an ice cream truck alive. Rejoining the party, she describes that when Columbus saved her in the woods, her nut allergy triggered symptoms similar to zombifiecation. Little Rock and Berkeley are banned from learning guns at Babylon and melted down to make medallions for peace. The party is coming to Babylon, relenting to the rule of no-guns, and seeking Little Rock. Tallahassee leaves to realize that she is now grown up and no longer needs his safety, as the hippies celebrate the return of the party with fireworks. Tallahassee finds the fireworks attracted a huge horde of superzombies and returns to alert the party. Left without guns, Tallahassee creates two plans: first, to use fireworks to attract the zombies to an enclosed area and to explode a biodiesel tank. Second, Tallahassee attracted neighborhood leaders armed with barricade guns to corral the zombies off a skyscraper.
The first attempt is ill-fated when the swarm of zombies becomes larger than expected and surrounds the unarmed party. Resigned to their fate, they thank each other for their companionship, but Reno comes into the monster truck to save the party. The truck is tipping over, causing them to move the skyscraper while Tallahassee is stopping the zombies. The survivors create a single path off the edge of the building using shields. Tallahassee leaps off the house, followed by the undead, catching a building crane's hook as the mob falls to their death. Two zombies grab the arm of Tallahassee, but with a misplaced pistol, Little Rock shoots them.
With Tallahassee being rescued and the zombie army being killed, Little Rock reconciles with Tallahassee, and Wichita accepts Colombus ' marriage proposal. Little Rock breaks with Berkeley, who hooks up with Madison, leaving Babylon as the band, joined by Reno. Columbus states that they finally found each other's bedroom.

Production
Because of the popularity of Zombieland, a proposed sequel was quickly conceived by authors Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, with many more concepts they wanted to explore. "We'd enjoy it, and hopefully everybody involved wants to do another," Wernick said. "Woody Harrelson came up to us after the final cut of the last scene and gave us a hug and said,' I've never wanted to do a sequel in the previous films I've done until this one.'" Wernick said he planned to have Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin star again with Ruben Fleischer returning as the director and that the writers had "tons of new ideas swimming in their heads." I also wanted to make the sitcom a permanent franchise. "We'd like to do a few sequels," Wernick said. "We'd love to see it on television as well. It'd make a great TV series," they wrote a TV pilot, with a different cast, released on Lovefilm and Amazon Video in April 2013.
Reese and Wernick admitted that they didn't intend on an imminent sequel because they were heavily involved in other writing projects. By November 2009, all were expected to return to the original cast and director, with Fleischer excited about the possibility of doing the 3D sequel. In February 2010, Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg announced their return for the series ' second installment. Fleischer said he was working on the script in 2010, and the writers started looking for another "superstar cameo."
Jesse Eisenberg said with the sequel in July 2011 that he was "not sure what's going on," but that the authors were working on a Zombieland 2 script. Eisenberg expressed concern that a sequel would no longer be "important." Woody Harrelson said he declined to do a sequel as well, saying, "It's one thing to do when it comes out really well and it made a lot of people laugh, but then I don't know. I don't feel like a sequels man."
Reese and Wernick were confirmed to write the sequel in February 2016. Reese and Wernick stated in August 2016 that they were working on Zombieland 2 and meeting with Woody Harrelson to discuss the project while saying that "the whole cast is quite excited."
